The Kanggui Christian College formerly named. "Kangpokpi Mission College was established in 1995 at Mission Compound, Kangpokpi. It is one of the first educational institutions with great effort and co-operation of the people of this area, so as to have higher education facilities for the students specially the young generation.
Kangpokpi Mission Compound was founded in 1920 by pioneer Missionaries. Mention may be made to William Pettigrew, Dr. Crozier who had whole heartedly spent their prime of lives for the cause of the people of Manipur to propagate the Good News for the greatest human concern of good health and sound minds by establishing Hospital, Leprosy Care Centre, the first of its kind and Biblical Institution. From the inception the Mission works and activities have been rapidly growing satisfactorily without any hindrance internally and externally.
However, the ethnic crisis erupted in 1992 which compelled the college Manipur Theological College" shifted to Imphal. In the midst of such turmoil, hardship and uncertainty situation, the Administrative Committee under the Chairmanship of Rev. S.N. Gangte the then General Secretary of KBC convened the Administrative Committee on 14 July, 1995 The committee members named, Rev. S.N. Gangte, Rev. Y Haokip, Haokholun Chongloi, Lunseh Kipgen, Boipu Momin, Tongneithang Vaiphei, Lamsat Lhouvum, Seikam Hangshing, Haopu Hangshing, Mangkholen Misao, Haokholen Guite, Tongjalal Lhouvum, Letjathang Haokip, Bobol Guite, Haokholun Haokip & J.V. Pudalte unanimously felt the need for establishing one secular College which to be named, "KANGPOKPI MISSION COLLEGE" to be a Residental Co-educational Institution.
As per the resolution of the Committee, the Chairman (KCH) met Dr. T.S. Gangte the then Chairman of COHSEM with application and required documents for permission to open the College. After a week or so the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) had granted the permission to open the College at Higher Secondary level (Vide order No. 3/7/92-HSC/386 at 28 July 1995 as per provision of Section 13(XI) of HSC Act 1992 with the resolution No. 4.1 (a) of COHSEM. The inauguration function of the College was performed on 1 August, 1996 by Rev. S. Singson. Locally all initiative measures have been taken care by the then Medical Superintendent Dr. Thangkhum Gangte and Mission Care taker committee without whose help things couldn't have been successful
The Manipur Baptist Convention in its Council meeting at MBC Church, Imphal had given the right to take care of over the property (Movable and immovable) of Manipur Theological College. As such MTC Building, Hostel Buildings, etc. had been used for the College as the situation had not been calm and normal. In other side, Mr. Hari Kumar Kharka had donated his vacant land measuring about 7 acres on lease basis for future development of the College altenative site.
As desired by the Public and student community in particular the Syndicate of the Manipur University under ts Resolution No. 17/ 163/29-10-99 had granted the permission to open Degree Classes from the session, 1999-2000 under Vide Memo No. MU/2-1/80/CDC/217.
Nungkhongam Gangte was the first Principal of the College appointed by KCH. With some staffs he ran the College smoothly. In the meantime, he left the College and Mr. Doulet Khongsai, senior lecturer of the college was appointed as Principal by the then Managing Committee of the College on 30th October, 1999. The College had been gradually upgraded and fulfilled the criteria for granting the permission to the level of Degree classes under the Chairmanship of Mr. L. Haokholet and the Principal of the College.
In accordance with the Resolution No. 4KMC/1/2000 of the meeting between Mission Caretaker Comme headed by Dr. Th Gangte, Medical Superintendent of KCH and the executive members of the Kuki Baptist Convention (0) the whole management and administration of Kangpokpi Mission College was handed over to Kuki Baptist Convention (1) w.e.f. Wed. the 10 May, 2000. After a few years of running, the College was compelled to vacate the buildings since the MTC was shifted again to its original place. Hence, the College was shifted down to the site of KBC Centre Church, Kangpokpi on 8th January, 2003. The name of the College had also been changed from Kangpokpi Mission College to KANGGUI CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, Kangpokpi by the College Development Council, Manipur University (Vide No. 15/183/7-8-2004) Now, Kanggui Christian College is located at Kangpokpi has a good building and a vast enough compound with graduate level of both General & Honours Course.
